When do you open for the Christmas season?

We open on Thanksgiving Day and stay open for as long as we have trees to sell. There is no fixed closing date - when the trees are gone, the season is done. The best trees go quickly, especially in the first week, so come early for the best selection.

Where is the Christmas tree lot located?

Accepted Answer

Our retail lot is at 2436 Jonathan Creek Road, Waynesville, NC 28785, just off I-40 at Exit 20 as you head toward Maggie Valley. Look for the big red barn on the road with the Barn Star Events sign. Choose-'n-cut is at 624 Hemphill Road, Waynesville.

What kind of Christmas trees do you sell?

We specialize in Fraser fir, the tree Western North Carolina is famous for. Fraser fir holds its needles well, has strong branches for heavier ornaments, and keeps its fragrance through the season. Most of what we sell is fresh-cut, with choose-'n-cut available at the Hemphill Road field.

Do you sell live Christmas trees that can be planted?

Accepted Answer

Only by special arrangement, and we generally steer people toward a cut tree instead. Digging a living tree removes topsoil along with the rootball, takes far more labor than cutting, and costs considerably more. Nearly everyone is happier with a fresh-cut or choose-'n-cut Fraser fir. If you want a tree to plant, talk to Brian well before the season.

Are your trees grown with pesticides?

No. Our Fraser firs are grown pesticide-free on our own farm here in Waynesville, in their native mountain soil. Every tree is hand-inspected before it is sold.

Do you sell wreaths and garland?

Accepted Answer

Yes, we make handmade wreaths and garland on site, available in limited supply upon request. Call the lot at (828) 226-0747 or send us a message through our Christmas tree contact page to ask what is available or to have one set aside.

How do I keep my Fraser fir fresh through Christmas?

Accepted Answer

Three things matter. First, take half an inch to an inch off the bottom of the trunk right before the tree goes in the stand, because sap seals the base within hours of cutting and that seal stops it drinking. Second, fill the reservoir immediately and check it every day; a fresh Fraser fir can drink a gallon or more in the first day or two, and plain tap water is all it needs. Third, keep it away from heat vents, wood stoves, fireplaces and direct sun, and use cool-running LED lights.

Absolutely. We will help you choose a tree and help you load it for the trip home. Our goal is to make it quick, convenient, and hassle-free, because the holidays are busy enough already.
